in the era of web1.0 (before js frameworks and big social media), lots of people would make personal websites on any topic imaginable, and what they would do is form groups and have a link to each other's websites on their own, forming a ring. For example, there are 10 websites in a webring, and you're on the third one. then there may be a "previous" button to get you to the second one, and a "next" one to get to the fourth one, or it may just have the entire index of the 10 websites so you can navigate to whichever you want.
